Ride4aReason
Sunday 5th July
Gather together your friends and family and have fun on our fully signed off-road cycle ride!
Take up the challenge of completing your own cycle ride to raise money for either a charity of your choice, our chosen charity, Essex and Herts Air Ambulance or for the simple reason that it's great fun to ride your bike!
You can let everyone know you've entered and share with them your reasons for taking up this challenge. Use this link: https://www.justgiving.com/
Alternatively, set up your own donation page, for the reason that matters to you. There are a number of options online, one being a Just Giving page.
Or just come and ride!
Routes:
- Red - 4km
- Green - 8km
- Yellow - 12km
Leaving from and returning to the Fete du Velo on Redbourn Common, each route will be fully signed, colour coded and numbered - so you just follow your colour and count off the signs : 1, 2, 3, etc. as you go! Taking you from the common onto the Nicky Line and back to the finish.
Entry fee: £5 per person or £10 per family. This includes a finishers medal and code word competition prize (see below).
Sign on: Pay on the day at the Information Desk at the Fete du Velo on the Common.
Depart:
Walk your bike with care from the Fete du Velo across the closed road cycle race circuit to the depart, which will be on the wide path opposite the car park entrance to the Cricket Club Pavilion on West Common. Set off and immediately turn left off the pathway onto the common and follow the trail down past the play area to Chequer Lane. Then follow the signs which will lead you along Chequer Lane to the Nicky Line. Following the signs you'll eventually return to the same point where you'll see the finish line just a little way up West Common towards The Cricketers.
Competition:
Each ride follows the same route, just with a different turn-around point along the Nicky Line which will bring you back covering your chosen distance. On your turn-around sign will be a code word along with a short explanation of the historical significance of that word to Redbourn. Remember the code word! At the finish line, tell the helpers and you'll collect a prize, along with your finishers medal!
